There are two possible readings of this table, and both are true at once. A forklift operator who adds these skills to their CACES becomes the profile sought after to run a mixed fleet — conventional trucks and robots — rather than one who simply endures the transition.

Position yourself around versatility. Multiple CACES certifications, order picking, quality control, supervising one or more robots as backup: versatility protects you better than specialising solely in the most repetitive tasks — precisely those most exposed to automation.

Anticipate the CACES/robot question carefully. CACES R489 targets ride-on trucks; for autonomous robots, the technical reference is the EN ISO 3691-4 standard, and the employer remains required to train and inform both the operators and staff working nearby. The precise doctrine on driving authorisation around an AMR deserves to be validated case by case with the Carsat or the INRS before any deployment.

Repositioning yourself, then, isn't a leap into the unknown: it extends skills you already have — safety, site knowledge, rigour — into an environment where part of the travel is delegated to the machine.
