What the WMS actually does

It then drives order preparation by organizing picking routes, managing picking waves, and tracking every stock movement, down to the batch, expiry date, or serial number depending on the sector. Finally, it generates shipping documents and feeds cycle counts.
The French market has several leading vendors: Reflex WMS (Hardis Group), Generix WMS, Speed WMS (BK Systèmes), Savoye Odatio, Manhattan Active WM, SAP EWM, and Mecalux Easy WMS for automated warehouses, as well as lighter solutions like Odoo Inventory for SMEs. Project budgets vary widely depending on warehouse size and level of integration: from a few tens of thousands of euros for an SME on standard SaaS to several hundred thousand euros for a large enterprise with custom development.
WMS, TMS, or ERP? The WMS drives physical execution inside the warehouse. The TMS manages transport outside its walls. The ERP centralizes the company's overall management (finance, purchasing, sales) and interfaces with the WMS rather than replacing it.
